Hadef and Partners is one of the leading law firms in the Middle East operating across the GCC and Saudia Arabia. It has particularly strong offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi with over 90 lawyers in these locations.
The Abu Dhabi office had a Head of Business Development who was relocating back to the UK. The individual was very highly regarded, and the Managing Partner was determined to replace him with someone of equivalent quality. While the Abu Dhabi office coordinates some elements of marketing and BD with the Dubai office the role required someone capable of functioning independently and delivering strong commercial results for the firm. Additionally, the new BD lead needed to be able to work closely with a range of partners to improve commercial results and drive growth.
Having taken a detailed briefing from the HR team and the incumbent Ian Jenkins conducted a global search speaking to talent from UAE, Qatar, USA, UK, Singapore and mainland Europe. Hadef required a candidate with experience of a partnership environment and who would work beyond the bounds of the job description to drive company performance. Having longlisted and remotely interviewed a range of candidates Ian delivered a shortlist to the business within 7 days of taking the brief. Ian spoke with the HR team to identify the strengths and areas of development for all the shortlisted candidates and three were selected for interview.
Following three rounds of interview and discussion with Ian on the merits of the different candidates Hadef were able to appoint a candidate from the Scotish market that matched all their criteria. Ian then worked closely with Hadef and the candidate to arrange the relocation and visa’s etc. This required some sensitivity to the fact the candidate was relocating just before Christmas. The parties were able to find a solution that allowed him to relocate to Abu Dhabi and still spend Christmas with his family back in the UK before his wife relocated out to the UAE in the new year.
